Everyone loves Pasta, from students with 90p left till their maintenance loan drops to the vegan who found out they can turn zucchini into spaghetti and have a field day. It’s the gift of the Italians that keeps on giving.

Today, I’m giving you the top ten pasta dishes that will savor your palette. From classic favorites to something completely new, I’m providing something for everybody with this list.

1. Spaghetti Carbonara

I’m sure everyone was expecting Spaghetti Bolognaise to be first, but not on this list. Carbonara is easier to cook with four main ingredients: Spaghetti, Mushrooms, Pancetta, and cheese sauce. It’s easy to find and only takes 10-20 minutes to cook. The Mushrooms and Pancetta are easy to prep a Pancetta only takes two to five minutes to cook depending on the heat, due to how thin the slices are. You can use a sauce packet, and that reduces the time of cooking further.

I know it’s been modernized by replacing the Pancetta with Bacon. However, I agree with the Italians in keeping it to Pancetta as it’s quicker to cook and, unlike Bacon, doesn’t add this weird saltiness to the pasta, which doesn’t mix well with the Carbonara. Plus, if you don’t like Pancetta or Bacon, you can always add Chicken instead, which makes a nice variation on the classic. And there are plenty of vegan recipes out there as well.

2. Spaghetti Bolognaise

Yes, you read it correctly. I put Spaghetti Bolognaise second instead of first. It’s my list. I can do what I like! This treat is a fantastic recipe fit for all the family as you can hide all sorts of veggies there so kids can quickly eat one of their five a day. Plus, you can do all kinds of variations with this recipe. There are recipes for a vegetarian one and a vegan Spaghetti Bolognaise. The only reason this pasta dish is second is that you have to defrost the meat the night before, which is easy to forget, and then it takes 45 minutes to cook, which isn’t ideal on a busy day.

3. Penne Arrabbiata

After tasting this one in a restaurant, I highly enjoy Penne Arrabbiata. I like when it is combined with chicken and Feta Cheese as the cheese gives it a nice creaminess. However, this one goes third as the Penne isn’t as fun to eat as Spaghetti and doesn’t fill you up as much either. However, because you aren’t twirling and slurping it up, it is quicker. Ultimately I think this placement depends on what you like in your pasta.

4. Fettucini Alfredo

Fettucini Alfredo is another easy pasta dish to cook. Just boil the Fettucini, cook the cream, add the parmesan and seasoning and toss the pasta in and stir. Pretty easy for any time of the week and filling too. However, too much of this dish makes it sickly, and I find it isn’t as customizable as other pasta dishes on the list.

5. Tuna Pasta Bake

Tuna Pasta Bake is quick and easy to make, well any pasta bake dish is really (and I couldn’t just put Pasta Bake as the fifth-place when every other pasta dish has been specific.) Ultimately Tuna was picked over the different variations of Pasta Bake, as it doesn’t add this horrible saltiness as Tomato and Bacon do. The only reason it’s this low on the list is that it’s always a group portion, and if you live on your own, you’re stuck with leftovers you won’t eat.

6. Macaroni Cheese

I can hear everyone, especially the Americans, come at me with their wooden spoons and frying pans. Yes, Macaroni Cheese is sixth on the list. It’s easy to cook and make. However, if you stick to ordinary Mac and Cheese without add-ins such as Pepperoni, it’s bland and doesn’t offer as much as other dishes.

7. Rigatoni with smoky Sausage Ragu

Rigatoni with smoky sausage ragu is a lovely, full and tasty dish, and I would place it above Macaroni Cheese. Unfortunately, because it takes an age to cook and get the skins off, four Sausages takes an age, not something as quick and easy as Macaroni Cheese or Spaghetti Carbonara.

8. Meatballs with Spaghetti

Another classic that people will say is too low on the list. Whilst Meatballs with Spaghetti is a staple of pasta dishes, you can find it in any Italian restaurant. Whilst, this classic is beloved by most and easy to cook. It can be very hit and miss. Sometimes it tastes impressive, or it’s the dullest thing on earth!

9. Ravioli

Ravioli is good on its own or with a side dish. However, it’s not as delicious as the other Pasta dishes on the list. And if you don’t cook the inside filling right, you’ve ruined the entire thing.

10. Lasanga

Lasanga made it on the list because it’s suitable for a group serving, and when it’s cooked well, it’s delicious. However, when poorly cooked, it is terrible. The pasta sheets are too dry, and then remembering the layers is difficult and comparing that to the ease of cooking the other dishes means it’s an alright Pasta dish. It’s not the best one out there.

Thank you for reading the top ten pasta dishes that will savour your palette. I hope it makes picking the next pasta dish for the dinner easier.
